World number three, Roger Federer, has opened up on his marriage to his wife, Mirka Vavrinec, who is a former professional tennis player.
Mirka and Federer got married in 2009, nine years after they met for the first time at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
Federer said his wife, who is two years older than him, thought their marriage, which has produced four children, would not work because of the age difference.
The 20-Grand Slam champion praised his wife for support in his career, saying she makes life easy for him.
“She is always there for me. She gets along well also with my parents, me with her parents. Life is simple with Mirka. We love each other a lot. After all those years, with 4 children, It’s still all good,” Federer said.
“I was a bit more than 18 years old when we met each other for the first time. She was around 20. She thought ‘but it’s not possible. It will not work.’ I was like ‘I do not know either. Either we try or we don’t. Luckily we fought for it and it was nice.”
