17 people have been confirmed dead following a boat mishap that occurred on Friday night in Lagos.
This update from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) follows the recovery of two additional bodies on Sunday evening.
The boat was heading to Ibeshe in Ojo area, from Mile 2.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the Coordinator, Lagos State Territorial District, NEMA, said in a statement: “17 bodies have been recovered so far from the Lagos Lagoon after the boat mishap.
“Emergency responders recovered four bodies on Saturday but 11 more bodies were recovered on Sunday afternoon bringing the total number to 15 as of afternoon.
“Two more bodies were recovered in the evening which increases the number to 17.”
Meanwhile, the search and rescue operation continued as of the time of publishing this report.
