A 19-year-old Lekan Alaka, has been jailed for stealing two dozen plastic chairs from the Mount Zion Anglican Church in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The Ogun Police Command charged Alaka with theft and prosecuted him before Magistrate Olajumoke Somefun.
Somefun held that the prosecution proved its case beyond any reasonable doubt and sentenced Alaka to three months’ imprisonment with an option of a N100,000 fine.
The prosecution counsel, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, had earlier informed the court that the man committed the offence around 4:30am on 23 October at the said Anglican church, located in the Leme area of Abeokuta.
Shonibare disclosed that Alaka scaled the fence of the church to cart away 24 plastic chairs, valued at N91,200, adding that he was apprehended by vigilantes while trying to escape with the stolen items.
The prosecutor maintained that the offence contravened Section 415 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
