President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that the All Progressives Congress, APC, remains the party to beat and is well positioned to win the 2019 general elections.
President Buhari said this on Friday while receiving the representatives of the 34 chairmen of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, according to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
Shehu quoted the President as saying the victories of the party in the Ekiti governorship election and the National Assembly bye-elections in Kogi, Bauchi and Katsina states were “signs of things to come.”
“Coming against the backdrop of the victory in Ekiti governorship election, the string of victories by our party, the APC, is a clear indication of the way things will go in 2019″, the President said.
President Buhari also said persons who oppose and doubt the capacity of the ruling party to win the elections do so at their own peril, throwing a subtle dig at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
‘‘For those who are discerning; those who have ears and eyes they will see, hear and understand. Those who don’t understand are entitled to their mistaken assumptions”, he said.
President Buhari thanked the leaders of the association for paying Sallah homage to him and promised them that he would continue to work for the best interest of the country.
Mohammed Na’Allah, Chairman of ALGON in Katsina State, who spoke on behalf of the visiting delegation, expressed their support for the Buhari administration.
President Buhari had earlier in the year, declared his intention to re-contest for the office of President in the 2019 general elections.
