Chairmen of sports associations who their sports will feature at the National Youth Games, in Ilorin, Kwara State, paid a surprised visit to Team Lagos athletes who are rounding up their closed camping activities in Bariga area of Lagos State on Friday.
The visit afforded the chairmen the opportunity to motivate the athletes ahead of their participation at the Games which holds at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State from Sunday, 10 October.
Newsbreak reports that the chairmen had pep talks with the athletes and urged them to make the state proud during the Games.
Speaking during a meeting with the chairmen at the camp, Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, stated that their presence at the camp would motivate the athletes to perform very well at the Games in Ilorin.
“Your visit to the camp today will motivate the athletes to perform well at the Games. I strongly believe that your interface with them will encourage them to give good accounts of themselves during the Games”.
He stated that all the necessary resources needed to participate at the Games had been provided by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“On our part at the Lagos State Sports Commission , we will try our best to provide enabling environment for the development of sports in the state, and for us to succeed in this, we need your cooperation to enable us achieve our goals together,” he said.
Lagos will be going to Ilorin with 260 athletes to participate in 33 sports. The contingent will depart Lagos to Ilorin, Kwara State on Sunday, 10 October to join athletes from other states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Team Lagos placed second behind Delta State Team at the 5th edition of the National Youth Games in 2019 in Ilorin Kwara State.
