Sources have said that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 election has travelled to London, United Kingdom (UK) to meet with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
Newsbreak.ng reports that the meeting between the former vice-president and Governor Wike is billed to take place today (Thursday).
The presidential flagbearer of the APC, Bola Tinubu, reportedly met with Wike in London on Monday.
Several media sources revealed that Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom and Ikpeazu Okezie of Abia state were also in attendance.
Although the reason behind the meeting remain unknown, it has however been suggested that it might be related to the horse-trading saga within the embroiled PDP, and Tinubu’s efforts to woo Wike to support him.
Prior to Monday’s meeting, the ruling party had attempted to cash in on the crisis in the PDP. Atiku had overlooked Wike for the position of vice-president despite recommendation by PDP National Working Committee (NWC). This left Wike aggrieved and despite attempts by the PDP to make peace with the former Minister, the matter has not been settled.
“The PDP presidential candidate headed for London today after arriving Paris yesterday. He is billed to meet with Wike tomorrow (Thursday) in an attempt to resolve the issues between them,” a source told The Cable.
