The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fired back at the ruling All Progressives Congress  (APC) for planning to institute a lawsuit against the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar, its presidential candidate.

Recall that Festus Keyamo (SAN), the minister of state for labor and employment, gave the independent corrupt practices and other related offenses commission (ICPC), the code of conduct bureau (CCB), and the economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC) a 72-hour deadline on Monday to arrest the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and remove him from the race.

In a letter dated January 16 and signed by him, Keyamo, the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s director of public affairs, argued that Atiku should be detained, questioned, and prosecuted for alleged money laundering.

He added that Atiku should be questioned about alleged “offenses against the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, offenses of conspiracy, offenses of criminal breach of trust, and offenses of criminal misappropriation.

However, in responding to Keyamo’s threat, PDP argued that APC was trying to divert Nigerians’ attention from the misrule of the ruling party.

“The @OfficialPDPNig dismisses as irresponsible the attempt by the @OfficialAPCNg and its incoherent Presidential Candidate @officialABAT, to divert public attention from the issues affecting Nigerians @officialABAT’s atrocious record and the vexatious misrule of the  @OfficialAPCNg by demanding that the @OfficialPDPNig Presidential Candidate, His Excellency @Atiku should withdraw from the Presidential race on account of simulated allegations by the APC. It is indeed ironic that an embattled @officialABAT, who is beleaguered by uncountable cases of fraudulent activities, including perjury, forgery, treasury looting, corruption and narcotic-related conviction can attempt to impugn on the unimpeachable integrity of the @OfficialPDPNig Presidential Candidate,” the statement partly read

“For clarity and for the interest of Nigerians, it is on record [email protected] is one of the most investigated public officials in this country. It is also on record that in all the investigations undertaken over him and his affairs Atiku Abubakar was never found culpable in any of the allegations. In contrast however, the @OfficialAPCNg Presidential Candidate has litany of confirmed legal impediments on very grave issues including those that boarders on international crime, namely; trafficking in narcotic and taking proceeds of narcotic,” it added.
PDP argued that Tinubu should withdraw from the country’s presidency race as he was ineligible to contest for the country’s highest elective position.
