As the 2023 election draws nearer, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) screening committee, John Odigie-Oyegun, has said that all but one of the presidential aspirants his panel screened are satisfied with the party opting for a consensus candidate.
Newsbreak reports that Oyegun stated this on Friday while presenting his committee’s report to the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu in Abuja.
The committee screened 23 presidential aspirants on Monday and Tuesday. 10 were disqualified.
“We engaged every aspirant on the issue of consensus and it was a pleasant surprise that 99 per cent agreed that the party is supreme and whatever the party finally decides, with proper consultations, they were likely to accept,” he told Adamu. “There is only one person that said I will accept consensus as long as it is based on me.”
The APC presidential primary election will hold between June 6 and 8.
