Over 10, 000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Katsina State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defection happened recently in Jibiya Local Government Area (LGA).
Katsina is the home state of the incumbent Nigerian leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, and is an APC-controlled state.
This news medium reports that the defectors, who hail from Jibiya and Kaita LGAs of the state, included a former Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Masari on Skill Acquisition and Vocational Training, Aminu Lawal.
Other chieftains of the APC, Alhaji Sa’adu Maigishiri, Lawal Abba, Nura Damaga, Mansur Mani, Basiru Isyaku, also defected to the PDP.
Abba, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, said that they dumped the APC due to the inability of its government to effectively tackle insecurity.
Receiving the new party members, the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Yakubu Danmarke, lamented that Jibiya, a border town between Nigeria and Niger Republic, which used to be the hotbed of commercial activities in the state and Northern Nigeria, has been crippled due to what he termed poor governance by the APC.
