As the 2023 election approaches, Jare Ajayi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, says the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to throw open the contest for its presidential ticket, may jeopardise the North-South rotation of the coveted position.

Newsbreak recalls that PDP on Wednesday said its resolve to throw open the presidential ticket with regard to the 2023 election, was in line with the recommendation made by the party’s zoning committee. For Afenifere, the PDP should have zoned its presidency to the South.

“We severally called on various political parties to zone their presidential slots to the South. We are still standing by that position,” Vanguard quotes Ajayi as saying.

While advising the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), not to toe the same line with the PDP, Ajayi urged the latter to rescind its decision by ceding its presidential ticket to the South.

The PDP presidential primaries have been scheduled for the end of May while Nigerians watch with rapt keenness as the party elects its flagbearer at its conventions.
