Reno Omokri, former presidential aide, has thrown his weight behind the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF), over their position regarding power shifting to the south in 2023.
The NGF, at their meeting in Kaduna State on Monday, said calls by their southern counterparts for power to shift to the south is unconstitutional.
The governors stated that the constitution only indicated that an elected president “shall score the majority votes and secure at least 25 per cent of the votes cast in two-thirds of the federation.”
The decision of the northern governors has been generating reactions, after some of them had earlier agreed that power should go to the south in 2023, to maintain unity of the country.
But reacting to the stance of the governors, Omokri, who was a media aide to ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan, said power should remain in the north, to serve as lesson to south for choosing President Muhammadu Buhari over his former principal during the 2015 election.
“I support Northern Governors Forum’s rejection of power shift to the South. Let power remain in the North after 2023 to teach Southerners the power of unity. Southerners united with Northerners to betray an innocent Southerner in 2015 and expect Northerners to trust them?” he wrote.
“Even you, will you trust someone who sells his next door neighbour to you? Betrayers are by their very nature unreliable. If they can betray one so close to them to you, they can also betray you to others. Look at Femi Fani-Kayode. No Northerner can ever exhibit such a trait! Tueh! “
