Deji Adeyanju, a former Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday, asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to resign from his position immediately following his intent to engage in partisan politics and contest the 2023 presidential election.
Newsbreak reports that Emefiele picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) N100 million presidential nomination and expression of interest forms. He reportedly picked up the form on Friday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
About three groups were believed to have raised N100m each for Emefiele to purchase the forms. They are the Rice Farmers Association, Emefiele Support Group, and Friends of Godwin.
However, Adeyanju, in a statement on his known Twitter handle, described the CBN governor’s move as an “obvious conflict of interest”, thus, he must step down from his current position.
“Emefiele must resign as CBN Gov immediately because of the obvious conflict of interest. That said, I think he is one of those who can effectively challenge ThiefNubu (referring to Bola Tinubu) in the APC. Currently, ThiefNubu has bought most delegates in the APC and I hear he has budgeted $30k per delegate votes to achieve his life-long ambition,” Adeyanju said.
“Somebody told me the man has spent over N18bn already just going round the country sharing dollars even before primaries. These guys have destroyed our polity. They are buying Emirs, Senators, Govs, etc with millions of dollars. I’m tempted to ask myself: is Nigeria now for sale? Most of the Northerners you see supporting them are collecting hundreds of thousands dollars from them but I expect them to just eat their money and teach them real politics.
“For Gandollar to be supporting someone so passionately like that, LMAO!”
