Emeka Nwajuiba, Minister of State for Education has resigned to focus on his presidential ambition come 2023.

Newsbreak.ng reports that this is coming after President Muhammadu Buhari directed all 2023 presidential aspirants to resign before May 16, 2022, at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday.

The development made Buhari excited, as he also singled Emeka Nwajuiba out for braving the odds to quit and avoid conflict of interest

He said: “I expect other members of this council seeking to be President to resign with immediate effect”

Furthermore, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed the minister’s resignation to Channels Television.

Recall Nwajiuba had picked the expression of interest and nomination forms from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for the presidency at the cost of N100million.

Nwajuiba’s Political Journey

The Minister was a member of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003 under the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) and was re-elected into the House in 2019 on the platform of the Accord Party before he was appointed minister by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He became a member of the House after the pronouncement by the FCT High Court Kubwa, which sacked Chike Okafor, Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency of Imo State, and pronounced Mr Nwajuiba as the winner of the election.

However, the decision of the FCT High court was subsequently upturned by the Appeal Court and finally the Supreme Court. By then, Mr Nwajuiba was already a cabinet minister.

During his stint in the 9th House, he made a bid for the Speakership position but stepped down for the eventual winner, Femi Gbajabiamila.
