Some Nigerians have attacked former Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, for pledging his support for the political ambition of Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, ahead of the 2023 elections.
Bello has confirmed that various groups in the country have called on him to contest the presidential election in two years’ time.
Obi, who visited the governor in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital on Sunday, commended him for his achievement in Kogi in the areas of security, healthcare, infrastructure, education and agriculture.
The Stoke City player stated that when such projects are carried out at the federal level, it will bring further development to the country.
“It is an honour for me to finally meet his Excellency personally after all the good things I have heard and read about him from not just the people of Kogi State but from Nigerians,” Obi partly said.
“My main aim is to come here to show my appreciation and to thank him for all the things he has been doing for the people and also to support him in whatever future political positions he wants to go into.”
“I would like to be there to support him, to be there by his side through this journey for him to achieve whatever he wants, which is for the betterment of Nigeria.”
He also said no youth can lead Nigeria better than Bello.
However, his words did not sit well with the youths, who believed the footballer’s palm must have been greased.
