Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has commended former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Aminu Tambuwal; and his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed, for their consensus move ahead of the 2023 presidential election, adding “that there is no other way forward than the unity of purpose of the PDP”, Newsbreak.ng reports.
Diri said this while speaking with newsmen at the end of the meeting with Saraki, Tambuwal and Mohammed, in Government House, Yenagoa, on Monday. He noted the consensus-building on who will emerge as the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 presidential election was working.
“We must realise that, first, we are an opposition party. We are not a party in government and we cannot afford to factionalise and fractionalise our party by way of individual ambitions,” Diri said.
Furthermore, the Bayelsa Governor said the state chapter of the PDP was prepared to work assiduously for the unity of the party and its quest to take over the reins of governance to give Nigerians quality leadership and dividends of democracy.
