The Abubakar Atiku and Nyesom Wike’s meeting on Thursday notwithstanding, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the Rivers State governor may work against the party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer if their differences were not properly handled.
Newsbreak.ng reports that Atiku and Wike met in Abuja on Thursday to resolve some issues.
Both men who have been having a running battle since the PDP presidential primary, met in the house of Professor Jerry Gana.
Atiku defeated Wike in the PDP primary election, and the Rivers’ governor indicated interest in being the presidential running mate, but the former Vice President settled for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.
However, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) met over the issue between Atiku and Wike and resolved to reconcile both men.
Despite the pledge to resolve the PDP crisis in seven days, a source told Vanguard that Wike “will act as a spoiler”.
In fact, it is alleged that he is covertly supporting Peter Obi, a fellow Southerner who is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
“Wike will not leave the PDP but he will act as a spoiler,” the source said.
“Very soon, those who Atiku does not favour, whether in the choice of the campaign council or he misfires, are those Wike will latch on and use against the PDP candidate. He will be an opposition within the opposition.
“He is secretly supporting Peter Obi. It will be the same thing Rauf Aregbesola did to them in Osun State. Though Aregbesola did not decamp, he only instructed his supporters to back Ademola Adeleke. It is the same card Wike may play during the campaigns.”
