Rights activist and one of the originators of the “EndSARS movement, Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, has branded supporters of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi as ‘extremists’.
Segalink, in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle, called on the Nigerian authorities to be aware of the cyber terrorism being unleashed on citizens by the supporters of Peter Obi.
He tweeted, “The Nigerian authorities should also be aware of the ongoing CyberTerrorism being unleashed on citizens by Peter Obi fans with untold extremism, which may escalate and further exacerbate our fragile polity. This is unhealthy & immediate action must be taken.”
A lot of social media users have complained about attacks from Peter Obi’s online supporters which led to the former Anambra governor appealing to his loyalists to shun campaigns of calumny ahead of the 2023 elections.
Addressing them via a tweet on May 29, he said, “It has been brought to my attention, and I have also observed that some of my numerous supporters are making personal attacks on other aspirants/candidates.
“Whilst thanking you for your support, which I sincerely value and appreciate, I humbly appeal that we all imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and avoid name-calling or personal attacks on other aspirants and candidates.
The common goal is to make Nigeria better. Elections are a democratic contest and need not be adversarial.”
