About 21 hoodlums have been arrested in Ogudu and Ajah areas of Lagos State, after attacking policemen and operatives of the state Environmental and Special Offences Unit, popularly known as Task Force, with weapons.

It was gathered that the hoodlums used various weapons, including broken bottles, axes and stones to attack the policemen, who came to raid some black spots in the areas on Wednesday.
Olayinka Egbeyemi, chairman of the state task force and a chief superintendent of police, who led the enforcement team, said the suspects were arrested during an enforcement operation on criminal hideouts.

According to the statement posted on Facebook and Twitter handle of the agency, “during the enforcement exercise, a large number of the hoodlums launched an attack on the officers with broken bottles, stones, axe and other weapons from different spots including uncompleted buildings.”

The agency said its officers called for reinforcement and flushed them out from their hideouts, while some of the hoodlums escaped through the roof.
Egbeyemi noted that residents of the areas had complained of attacks on innocent members of the public by the miscreants and cult gangs, especially in the morning and late at night.

He disclosed that the commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that all the 21 hoodlums be prosecuted, after proper investigation into their activities.
