A 24-year-old Nigerian woman, Kaosiso Ezibe, who has been standing trial in Canada for alleged $291,000 online scam since in 2019, has been acquitted of the crime.
According to reports, Ezibe was charged after a woman reported she was defrauded by someone she met online.
Police say a 60-year-old woman met someone claiming to be a wealthy architect living in Toronto through an online dating website.
Authorities added that between February and March this year, the woman started an online relationship with the architect, communicating through emails, text messages and phone calls.
According to police, the wealthy architect turned out to be a fabricated identity.
However, the suspect has been discharged and acquitted of the alleged crime.
