At least 38 suspects are said to have escaped from the cells of the Enugu State Police Command headquarters.
It was learnt that the suspects escaped from the police cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department, inside the state Police Headquarters on Sunday night, according to the Punch.
The report noted that the suspects were remanded at the command headquarters for various offences.
It was gathered that the suspects were remanded by Magistrate Courts at the police cells during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown because of the congestion of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Enugu.
Sources indicate that a manhunt of the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
The command is, however, yet to issue a statement on the incident.
