About 4,625 university and polytechnic graduates have applied for recruitment into Amotekun Corps in Osun State.

Amitolu Shittu, the Director-General of the Corps in the state, said 20 per cent of the 13,000 applicants are university graduates while 15 per cent have Higher National Diploma. He added that 10 per cent have have Ordinary National Diploma while five per cent have National Certificate of Education.

Senior School Certificate Examination holders make up 40 per cent of the applicants, with six per cent of them have Primary School Leaving Certificate. Those in the category of non-education constitute four per cent of the total number of the applicants.

Shittu assured that the applicants would be thoroughly screened and subjected to various tests.

Governors of the six Southwestern states: Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Osun and Ondo, had come together to form a security outfit, codenamed Amotekun.

The security outfit, birthed on January 9, 2020, is formed basically to defend the region in view of the rising insecurity in the country, accentuated by indiscriminate killings, kidnappings, banditry and destruction of farmlands.

The headquarters of Operation Amotekun is located in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
