Okay, with that being said, you might have wondered or ask yourself these questions “Is he gay?” or “Is she gay?” and these questions could come from you who is a straight friend or even you are gay but crushing on this person. Now if you are gay and your gaydar isn’t as strong as you often mistake people for being queer, you find yourself asking questions like “what if I make my move and get turned down because they aren’t gay?” or “He or she does seem like they’re gay… ooops! Maybe not” well, well, well, while this might be relatively accurate, there are visible indications that states it clearly to you that this person is queer!
While people’s sexuality might want to be kept private and personal to themselves, you might want to know their sexuality simply because you are interested in them given that it is a small community of people or you just want to show your support to them as a friend, it is important that you take the first step which is spotting the signs that make them stand out to you.
The Way They Compliment Others
People who are queer are very outspoken when it comes to complimenting people. If they are gay, you might notice how they look at members of the same sex and compliment them. It’s just like your male friend seeing a guy and abruptly saying something like “That shirt makes his shoulder look so good” and if it’s a girl, (girls compliment themselves a lot so it doesn’t necessarily mean they are gay) you see her staring longer at a lady and saying something nice about her features which a straight female won’t necessarily say.
The Way They Dress
Gay guys for sure love to wear fitted clothes. They can incorporate some colours that make their style seem somewhat eccentric but is what it is. You might notice them serving an effeminate vibe – Gay men who do not want to go as far as crossdressing might often be seen adopting female mannerisms. On the other hand, some butch lesbians wear outfits that men would typically wear and often times, emanate more masculine vibes. The femme lesbians do not really have a particular mode of dressing that is too different from the general female dressing. Gay women love flannel shirts and keep their nails short as well. If they do not keep all their nails short, you will find that their middle and ring fingers are usually short because of bedroom times.
Their Circle of Friends
Since it is a community (LGBTQ+ community), gay people love to keep in touch with likeminded people. Their circle of friends can also determine if they are gay. You could also be mistaken because straight people also have more of gay friends so this may not be a major indicator.
Who They Follow On Social Media
Your gay friend is very likely to follow more gay people on social media. You follow people who you have relatively equal interests with. For example, when you check who they are following on IG or any other social media platform, you’re very much likely to find that there will be plenty of rainbow emojis on sight. Even while you are stalking them, you’ve gotta be careful to not caught because embarrassment is very much likely to ensue.
Trust Your Gut Or Just Ask Them
There are times when your instincts or gaydar do not lie but even when your instincts keep telling you that they have a different sexual orientation, it is also important that you confirm from them yourself by asking them politely. If they are your friend or a crush, it might be difficult to go upfront and ask them but that’s the only way to find out if you are right or wrong. Joking around about it may never really be a good option, well, that depends on the person and how they receive your humour otherwise, do not joke about it and expect them to be open to you.
