More than 600 persons have died after consuming undiluted alcohol, hoping it protects against COVID-19.

Ghulam Hussein Ismaili, spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary, said more than 3,000 persons had been poisoned after drinking toxic beverages in an effort to treat the disease.

He pointed out that many alcoholic drinks that were produced illegally in Iran lack the required standards, adding that a number of people have been arrested as a result of this.

Iran has reported 3,872 death from COVID-19 while the number of infections had risen to as high as 63,589.
