Two professors of the University of Abuja and four others who were abducted from the institution’s Staff Quarters in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have regained their freedom.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, on Friday.

Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the staff quarters located on the Gwagwalada-Giri Road in the early hours of Tuesday and abducted Professor Bassey Ubom, alongside his son and daughter. Also abducted were Professor Obanza Malam, Sambo  Mohammed and Dr. Tobit.

The abductors subsequently demanded N300 million for their release.

However, the police announced that they rescued the abductees to safety, saying the rescue operation was carried out by a combined team of security operatives.

The statement read: “The FCT Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that all abducted victims of the University of Abuja were rescued and reunited with their families through a joint operation with other security agencies. More details coming soon.”
