Some irate fans of Abia Warriors attacked officials of visiting Katsina United after their Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, match on Sunday. The fans were said to have been angry after their 16th minute lead was cancelled out by a penalty awarded to the visiting side. They were also particularly angry that their chance of retaining their lead was thwarted after a goal was ruled out as offside.

Musa Bashir, Katsina’s cameraman, had been recording the incident before he was beaten and injured in the process. He was hospitalised after the incident. Wale Oye, the team’s spokesman, said the matter had been reported to the League Management Company, LMC. He said the fans damaged two tapes as well as stealing the victim’s wallet and some money.

Igwe Onuoha, Abia’s spokesman, confirmed the incident. He however expressed doubt that the incident happened within their grounds saying they had ensured adequate security for the players and officials of the visiting team.
