The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn to face Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau in Group D of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations expected to hold in Cameroon.
The group allocation was made known at the draw ceremony held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on Tuesday.
Defending champions, Algeria, have drawn former winners Cote d’ Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea in Group E.
Cameroon, the hosts, will come up against Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Cape Verde in Group A.
The tournament, which features 24 teams and runs from 9 January to 6 February 2022, will see the winners and runners-up in each of the six groups, plus the best four third-placed teams, reach the knockout phase.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the tournament’s organisers, five main cities have been selected as hosts of the tournament.
They are Douala and its Japoma Stadium, Yaoundé and its Ahmadou Ahidjo and Olembé Stadiums, Bafoussam and its Kouekong Stadium, Garoua and its Roumdjié-Adja Stadium and finally the Limbe-Buea venue which houses the Limbe Omnisport Stadium
The competition is being held a year late due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nigeria has won the competition on three different occasions, with the Green Eagles being victorious at home in 1980 and the rechristened Super Eagles winning going home with the trophy in 1994 and 2013 respectively.
