Reverend Stephen Akinola, General Superintendent of Redemption Ministries Worldwide which has its headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is dead.
According to The PUNCH, the cause of his death has not been ascertained, but he was said to have undergone a kidney transplant sometime ago.
The report added that Akinola, 68, spent several months in India for the same health challenge.
It was gathered that many of his congregation and residents thronged the church’s headquarters on Sunday to mourn the popular cleric.
Akinola reportedly left Deeper Christian Life Ministry as a young pastor in January 1987 to start his own ministry; the Redemption Ministries.
The church is said to have increased in the number of branches across Nigeria, and has also expanded to other countries such as Brazil, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The news of his death comes just as Nigerians are mourning the shocking demise of founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) TB Joshua, who died on Saturday at the age of 57.
