Unknown gunmen on Thursday, killed a inspector during an attacked on Orlu police station in Imo State.
The gunmen also razed the police station.
Three of the assailants were also killed in an ensuing gunfire between them and the police.
CSP Mike Abattam, Public Relations Officer of the command, in a statement, said the incident occurred at about 9:35pm.
Abattam said the bandits threw explosives and petrol bombs on top of the roof of the police station, damaging the roof and causing a fire at the station.
He said that the fire affected some of the vehicles parked in the premises of the station.
The police PRO noted that the command’s tactical teams engaged the attackers in a gun duel and subdued them due to the superior fire power.
“Three of the bandits were neutralized and their guns, one pump action gun and two locally made double barrel pistols were recovered while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds,” he said.
“Unfortunately, a police inspector lost his life in the attack.”
