The dilapidating state of Opeilu-Ijoko road in Ifo Local Government area of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria has become so worrisome that is making life so unbearable for not only motorists plying the road, but also residents.
Newsbreak’s visit to the area on Sunday revealed the level of suffering the road users and residents are going through on daily basis.
The road linking Agabdo-Oja to Ijoko is an eye sore with neglect over the years by previous governments in Ogun State.
While speaking with Newsbreak, Pastor Adebisi Benjamin, who said he has been living in the area for a very long time, said: “What we are experiencing has been so bad in the past few year. The road links Agbado-Oja to Ijoko has been in bad shape and it needs total reconstruction now.. The multiplier effects of this is unimaginable on the lives of so many people. It has affected businesses, and it seems we have been forgotten by the government. Things do get worse when rain falls, it has been so bad to go out, and children could not go to schools. We can only plead with Governor Dapo Abiodun to please help us out to do this road,” he said.
To Mr. Edun Oluwadare, it is disheartening that the government could leave the road untouched for many years.
“This road has been very bad for a very long time. We have been calling on government to help us do something about, but nothing happened. So sad that whenever we sent emissaries and reports to the government, they would reply us that they did not know that Agbado-Oja-Ijoko road exist in their records, but when elections comes, they will come here to campaign for votes.
“All the link streets we used as alterative are becoming bad. People have abandoned their homes because the road is not accessible anymore. We appeal to the governor to come to our aid because we pay our taxes and tenement rates, so we need dividends of democracy as other people of Ogun State do enjoy,” Oluwadare said.
