Kola Balogun, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has defeated Abiola Ajimobi, the Oyo State Governor and candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the contest for Oyo South senatorial district.
Balogun picked the ticket ahead of Ajimobi, his closest rival, with a vote difference of 13, 502.
Wole Akinsola, the INEC Returning Officer for the district, announced the result on Monday at the electoral body’s collation centre located in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
According to him, the PDP candidate polled a total of 105,720 votes, while the APC candidate had 92,217 votes.
It had earlier been reported that Ajimobi lost in all four of the first declared LGA results
In total, he won in three of the L0cal Governments in the senatorial district, while Balogun won the remaining six.
Ajimobi won in Ibadan Southwest, Ibarapa Central and Ido, with Balogun securing victory in Ibadan North, Ibadan Northwest, Ibadan Northeast, Ibadan Southeast, Ibarapa North, Ibarapa East.
The incumbent senator representing the district, Soji Akanbi, who contested under the platform of the ADC, finished third in the election.
