Niger state Governor, Babangida Aliyu, Tuesday allegedly ordered the sealing of the state house of assembly by policemen to prevent the legislators from impeaching him. The aggrieved legislators, 21 of them, were said to have forced their way in by breaking the padlock on the gate. The lawmakers are agitated that their salaries and severance allowances have not been paid. They are also claiming about N18 million in entitlement benefit.
The legislators also claimed the governor has been paying them half salaries since February.
However, the lawmakers were unable to carry out any activity in the assembly because they couldn’t find the mace. The lawmakers vowed they wouldn’t relent.
