Olanrewaju James Omiyinka, a Nollywood actor popularly known as Baba Ijesha, who has been in police custody for weeks over allegations of sexually assaulting a minor has been granted bail.
It was learnt that Baba Ijesha was granted bail on health grounds by a magistrate on Monday.
The bail for the actor came as a result of magistrates going around police stations across Lagos State, listening to cases and giving hearing to those arrested due to the industrial action by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
The strike has led to courts being shut across the country.
Adesina Ogunlana, the lawyer to Baba Ijesha, confirmed the development.
“He has been granted bail about one hour ago. We are working to perfect the bail. He was granted bail on health grounds. He has not been released. He will be released after his bail conditions have been met,” Ogunlana told the Punch.
Baba Ijesa was arrested after he was recently caught on tape harassing a minor in the care of popular comedienne, Damilola Adekoya, better known as Princess.
There has been public outcry following the revelation that Baba Ijesha allegedly raped the foster-daughter of Princess when she was seven years old, and molested her recently at 14 years old.
In a video that went viral on social media, he was also seen confessing to the crime and pleading for forgiveness.
