Nigerians have taken to Twitter to react to the “coming out” by Bolu, the son of Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson, as a homsexual.
Bolu had, in an Instagram post accompanied by a picture of him holding a rainbow flag and dressed in a rainbow-coloured short, on Wednesday openly declared that “Yes, I’m Gay”.
Following the announcement, Okupe went on Twitter and said he will not accept his son’s sexual orientation because homosexuality is contradictory to the Christian faith.
He described the situation as a “spiritual challenge” and prayed that God will help him intervene and reverse his son’s decision.
However, a good number of Twitter users have scolded the former presidential spokesperson for publicly denouncing his son’s sexuality, with some telling him to allow his son make his decisions as he is a grown-up man and that his (Bolu) determination of his sexual orientation should be by choice.
Others mocked Okupe, saying his son’s decision is as a result of bad parenting.
Another set of commentators indicated that they will join him in prayers to help reverse the situation.
