Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos, Monday, signed a new legislation outlawing land grabbing in Lagos. The governor said the new legislation – the Lagos State Properties Protection Law – “will give legal backing to the operations of our law enforcement officers”.
Ambode believes the new law will “ensure that our investors, businessmen and the general populace carry on their legitimate land/property transactions without any hinderance or intimidation henceforth”.
“The Properties Law will eliminate the activities of persons or corporate entities who use force and intimidation to dispossess or prevent any person or entity from acquiring legitimate interest and possession of property”, he added.
He also promised to set up a Special Task Force on Land-Grabbers.
The governor also signed into law the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Law. On this, Ambode said the legislation will boost security of lives and property in all the Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of the State.
The signing of the legislation was witnessed by Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly, and Chairman of Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dele Oloke.
