Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has vowed to ensure those found culpable in the collapsed building in Ita Faji, Lagos Island are punished.
The governor said this on Wednesday when he visited the scene of the collapse.
“I will like to commiserate with the families of those that actually lost their lives in this collapsed building.
“What I have been briefed some bodies have been recovered. Also I learnt it is a residential building that has an illegal school. So we are trying to continue the rescue operation, our response unit are already here and hopefully they will rescue more lives.
“We wil make sure that those responsible will be brought to book and other structures that do not meet the required standard will be demolished.
“I will like to appeal to residence to give our rescue workers a chance to do their work to save more lives.”
Rescue workers at the scene of the collapse have said about a hundred victims are still trapped in the ruble. They said it was unclear how many could survive the incident.
As at the time of filing this report, 3:51 pm, rescue operations were still ongoing.
