Meandsomebodyson, an Instagram page that celebrates black beauty and women, has called out Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, for allegedly taking advantage and using the likeness of her brands for her latest single with US music star, Brandy.
Savage’s latest single, ‘Somebody’s Son’, in which she featured Brandy, is currently making waves across the world.
However, Meandsomebodyson in a statement released on its Instagram page claimed that Savage and Brandy used the likeness of their brand and wanted to offer pennies for labour.
The statement read: “This isn’t like me. You all know I keep the love and peace on this side, but I am tired at this point. I’ve run this space for almost three years now.
“I pour my love, sweat, tears, and labor into this space. It is an honor to have made the phrase what it is, and inspired so many people. To have a reach so large the phrase inspired a song is something worth celebration.
“With that being said, though I am a fan of both artists, I am currently not affiliated to the song Tiwa Savage and Brandy made.
“In fact, I wasn’t contacted until a video was about to premiere. and offered slots to create content and post about the song. I feel like that is a slap in the face after years of labor and asking for more on top of that.
“It is unfortunate because as a young Black woman this could’ve been a huge opportunity for me but instead, they used the likeness of my brand and wanted to offer pennies for labor.
“All too often Black creatives are low balled when our white counterparts make thousands. I hope that Tiwa Savage and Brandy’s teams will be able to rectify the situation.”
