The Commandant of the Amotekun Corps in Oyo State, Col. Olayinka Olayanju, says security agents foiled a kidnap attempt that happened on the popular Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday.

News emerged on Saturday morning that several motorists on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway were abducted by gunmen on Friday evening. But reacting, Col. Olayanju said it was a kidnap attempt, which was thwarted.

According to him, some security agents who were coming from Lagos en route to Ibadan reportedly witnessed the criminals’ attempted kidnap and engaged them in a gun duel. He said the security operatives eventually foiled the attempt.

“I was told that the security agents had travelled to Lagos Airport to pick up their boss and were returning when they ran into the incident.

“They were said to have exchanged fire with the criminals but eventually repelled them and chased them away before they could whisk away their targets,” Col. Olayanju said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, could not be reached for comment on the said incident.
