Abike Dabiri-Erewa, a former House of Representatives member, has sued The Punch Newspapers and Diamond Bank Plc for publicly maligning her as a debtor. Punch, in its 4th August, 2015 edition, published a story that listed Dabiri-Erewa as a board member of Thriller Endeavours, a company purported to be owing the bank N122,912,031.06. Dabiri-Erewa claimed wrong attribution as part of the company’s board of directors. Her lawyer, Adetokunbo Mumuni, in the suit filed at the Federal High Court, in Lagos, claimed reputational injury against the one-time broadcaster (Dabiri-Erewa). Mumumi asked for N500 million damage against Punch and Diamond Bank and that the court declare the publication as false. She is also asking for N3 million as litigation cost and a public apology to her to be published in four national dailies, including The Punch.
