Spokesperson of the Lagos state police command Benjamin Hundeyin has declared that any police officer that demands money at gunpoint is an armed robber.
In a tweet on Friday, Hundeyin clarified that a cop carrying a firearm while demanding money from his victim does not imply ‘gunpoint’.
“This is worrisome. We are talking bail & people are mentioning guns. Please note that any officer that demands money at gunpoint is an armed robber! Report such an officer! Holding his duly issued firearm doesn’t automatically translate to gunpoint though. Case in point.,” he wrote.
He also advised Nigerians to refuse to pay bail when unscrupulous officers demand it.
His remarks come in the wake of public allegations of wanton corruption hurled against officers of the Nigerian police force.
