The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has urged the Federal Government to desist from the perceived intimidation, victimization, and witch-hunt of selected Igbo sons and daughters through the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
The OYC said this in reaction to the arrest of a former Senate president, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, by the EFCC.
Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the OYC President, in a statement described the arrest of Anyim, also a former secretary to the government of the Federation, as an act of political intimidation.
The youth council also charged the anti-corruption agency to stop intimidating, harassing and embarrassing Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim and other eminent sons of the Igbo nation.
Igboayaka retold the press of a similar treatment was imposed out to a former Abia Governor Sen. Orji Uzo Kalu.
The statement read: “Ohanaeze Youths Council is urging EFCC to immediately stop intimidating, harassing, and embracing Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim and other Igbo prominent sons of the Igbo extraction.”
“EFCC has been characterized with political conspiracy to witch-hunt the perceived opposition members of other political parties or those that are not in the corridors of power.
“Selective fight against corruption is the worst corruption ravaging the political cum economic growth of Nigeria, Economic and Financial Crime Commission ought to be an independent institution, but the principle of its establishment has been messed up by government undue influence
“The government should as a matter of urgency desist from intimidating the perceived opposition members and use EFCC for the purpose for which it was established.”
