Governors of the All Progressives Congress reportedly resisted President Muhammadu Buhari’s avowal against the elongated tenure of APC party officials across levels.
PUNCH said a meeting the governors held with President Buhari on Tuesday was “stormy”.
Both sides, the report said, agreed on the setting up of a technical committee proposed by the party’s national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun to review the tenure elongation matter.
Newsbreak.ng recalled that President Buhari stunned party leaders recently when he openly rejected the tenure elongation plot.
The president had said it negated the Nigerian Constitution and the statues of the party, which stated that elections strictly tenure-based.

Meanwhile, Odigie-Oyegun has constituted a 10-member committee to review the matter. The committee is to be headed by Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state. Other members are
the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Governor Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Governor Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Senator Ben Uwajomogu, Kabiru Ajana, Mr. Elisha Kurah (SAN), Mr. C.J.N. Dakas (SAN) and the National Legal Adviser of the party, Dr. Muiz Banire, who is also the secretary of the committee.
“Your job is to bring these two together and advise us on the way we can implement our activities in the next few weeks and months in a way that is politically advantageous to our party, the APC, and at the same time with deference to the niceties of the law.
“We must observe the law and at the same time emphasise that we try to do things that will be advantageous to the party,” he told the committee members.
