In line with its mandate to ensure that advertisements in Nigeria conform to ethical standards, the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) has directed Globacom Limited to stop the exposure of the “Glo link your NIN’’ commercial which featured Actress Osas Ighodaro as it contravenes the principles guiding advertising practice in the country.
In a statement signed by the APCON Registrar, Olalekan Fadolapo, obtained by Newsbreak, the campaign which has drawn complaints about the exposure of the model‘s cleavage was never approved by the statutory body saddled with the responsibility of vetting advertisements in the country.
“The advertisement was neither submitted nor approved for exposure by the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP), the statutory body charged with the responsibility of ensuring that advertisements conform with the prevailing laws of the Federation as well as the code of ethics of advertising in Nigeria.
“APCON has written to the management of Globacom Limited to stop further exposure of the advertisement/ commercial on all media platforms (broadcast and social media). We have also written to media stations and relevant government agencies in this regard,” Fadolapo added.
The regulatory agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring strict adherence to ethical standards and the code of advertising practice in Nigeria.
