Mike Idoko, Vice Chairman of Lobi Stars of Makurdi, has assured that the club’s home ground, Aper Aku Stadium, will be ready when the inspection team of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, visits next month.
The 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League champions were said to have started renovation on the stadium weeks ago, in order to meet CAF standard in readiness for the inspection team and ultimately next season’s Champions League.
It was gathered that facilities such as floodlights, scoreboard, VIP seats and dressing room are below required levels.
But Idoko said he is optimistic work will be completed before the arrival of the CAF team, saying the state government has assured of funds.
“From the inspection, we have done so far, we have to go back and fix those things. This is not the first CAF competition played in the state. In 2000, Lobi played continental matches here. But we have to look at the floodlights, scoreboard, seats and the dressing rooms.
“I am confident that all these facilities will be put in place before the inspection team arrives next month. The Governor has assured us of adequate funding”, Idoko stated.
Lobi Stars emerged champion of the abridged season, after the league was concluded in week 24, as against 38 games.
The club will represent Nigeria in next year’s continental elite club competition.
