Lionel Scaloni, Argentina manager, has been discharged from hospital after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Tuesday morning.
The former West Ham player was rushed to hospital after the incident in Portals, Mallorca.
Argentina’s official Twitter account released a statement to announce Scaloni’s return home.
“The coach of Argentina, Lionel Scaloni, suffered an accident today while driving his bicycle,” the statement read. “He is currently on his way home after medical discharge.”
Scaloni, who was appointed Argentina manager last November, began his playing career with Newell’s Old Boys in 1995.
The versatile right-sided player went on to represent Estudiantes, Deportivo La Coruna, Racing Santander, Lazio, Mallorca and Atalanta, with whom he finished his career in 2015.
He spent a short time in England with West Ham, joining the east Londoners on loan in January 2006 and helping the Hammers reach that year’s FA Cup final. Scaloni played the entire match as Liverpool beat West Ham on penalties at the Millennium Stadium.
