An Argentine footballer shot and killed the referee on Monday, after he was shown a red card for a foul, authorities have said. The footballer, who is at large, also shot another player, Walter Zarate, in the chest. He was said to have shot the referee, 48-year-old Cesar Flores, in the head, neck and chest in the city of Cordoba, Central Argentina.
Police said he had picked a gun from a backpack and ran onto the pitch to shoot the referee. The incident happened 20 minutes into the game between the local sides. The attacker was apparently sent off for flooring an opponent during the game. Officers have today been searching the locality for the wanted man but have so far found no trace.
