The media and communication directorates of the All Progressives Congress Presidential campaign council has fired back at the leadership of ThisDay and Arise TV, accusing the media house of trying to bully Tinubu into attending Arise Tv’s town hall.
Newsbreak Nigeria had earlier reported that the leadership of ThisDay Newspaper and Arise TV criticized the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, and its Director of Strategic Communication, Mr. Dele Alake, for trying to intimidate and silence independent media ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The media house alleged that the APC presidential campaign council threatened to prevail over the Nigerian Press Council to take disciplinary action against the establishment.
However, in a counter statement signed by Ononuga and Alake, the party accused the media house of attempting to bully Tinubu into forcefully attending its presidential town hall.
“We recall that both ThisDay and Arise Television sought to bully and compel the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu into attending its town hall meeting with presidential candidates, despite the media team’s explanation that it would not attend such programmes organised in a haphazard and uncoordinated manner by individual media houses,” the statement partly read.
