A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), member of Buhari Transition Committee and one time military governor of Kaduna State , Jafaru Isa, has returned N100 million of the N170 million allegedly given to him by Ex-National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. Premium Times reports that his release came after he refunded part of the money to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. A source at the anti-graft agency said he is expected to refund the remaining N70 million. A source close to Isa said Dasuki had paid over N100 million into his account to buy a house in Kano for him. He said he had paid the money in installments to the owner of the house, Ali Tukur, who later sold it to a former Minister of Finance, Yarima Ngama, who offered to pay N150 million.
Meanwhile the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war saying the release of Isa and the continued detention of its spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, was a proof of witch-hunt.
“The release of Jafaru Isa, a known associate of the President and chieftain of the APC eight hours after his arrest while our spokesman remains in detention even when the two are being investigated over the same allegation clearly shows that the President Buhari-led APC government is not fighting corruption but using the much hyped crusade as a cover to persecute PDP leaders and decimate the opposition, a project the EFCC has clearly yielded itself as a willing tool,” the statement said.
