An automobile accident in Lagos has claimed the life of Audu James, a brigadier-general in the Nigerian Army.
James, the senior executive course (SEC) 40 monitor-general at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), Kuru, Plateau state, passed away on Tuesday as a result of wounds he received when he was knocked to the ground.
The death of the brigadier-general was confirmed by Kayode Olagunju, the SEC 40, NIPSS welfare officer, in a statement on Wednesday.
“Sad news. We lost a gem. Our indefatigable, humble, friendly bridge builder, the Monitor General SEC 40 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Brig Gen Audu Ogbole James (mni), just departed,” the statement reads.
“He died from injuries sustained from a knockdown on the road yesterday (15/11/22) evening in Lagos.
“May his soul rest in peace. Our condolences to the family, AANI, especially the SEC 40. May the Lord console all and grant the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. So sad.”
According to reports, the army general was killed by the car of a drunk corporal while he was walking to his house.
Identified as Abayomi Ebun, the corporal who works with the Nigerian Army, has reportedly been held while an inquiry into the situation is underway.
