Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has made known its intention to sue President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for its failure to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Making this disclosure in a tweet on Thursday, SERAP asked interested Nigerians to join in the suit.
“BREAKING: We’re preparing court papers to sue the Buhari administration over the failure to meet the demands of ASUU and to allow poor Nigerian students to go back to school. Please urgently indicate your interest to join the suit especially if you are university students,” the rights group wrote.
Recall that the President Buhari administration has failed to reach a truce with the striking lecturers, keeping students out of classrooms since February.
ASUU went on strike on Monday, February 14, 2022. Among several other demands, the union asked that the ASUU-FGN 2009 agreement be renegotiated and that revitalization funds be released for universities.
However, there appear to be many discrepancies between the union and the government’s negotiations, leading to the union’s decision to continue its strike action.
