Paramount monarch in Lagos, Oba Riliwan Akiolu, has insinuated Atiku Abubakar, former Nigeria’s vice president, will never become the country’s president. Akiolu didn’t make a categorical statement, but his innuendoes suggested he meant the former VP, who served as deputy to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“Never again will a corrupt man become Nigeria’s president. There is no room for somebody who spent the first three years of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration making money and turning many companies to his own to come back to be the president of this country again. I mean it and by God’s grace, it shall be so”, Akiolu, a retired ex-assistant inspector-general of police said.
Oba Akiolu spoke at the launch of Nigerian Women Against Corruption (WAC) in Lagos, on Wednesday. The monarch commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption drive, as well as Bola Tinubu, influential leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
“If a man can achieve this much in office, under two years, it shows clearly that there is still hope for this country and whether we like it or not, we should thank God and commend Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” Oba Akiolu said.
